Don’t worry! You do not have to abstain completely from eating and drinking during fasting periods.
What can I drink while I am fasting?
While you are fasting you may only drink water or unsweetened tea. Coffee with a small amount of milk (50-100 ml per day) is also okay. You can also drink vegetable juice and vegetable broth.
After your fasting hours, you can drink anything you want. Although, it is always healthier to drink low-sweetened or low-calorie drinks.
Am I allowed to eat while fasting?
There is nothing wrong with eating a few vegetables during fasting if it helps you stick to your fasting period. Since vegetables are predominantly made of water, the calorie amount is quite low. During the fasting period, the goal is mainly to avoid increasing blood sugar so that the body pulls its energy from fat reserves. This also happens even if you drink a glass of vegetable juice (200 ml = about 34 kcal) or eat a medium carrot (= 40 kcal) during fasting.
What do I do if I am very hungry during fasting?
If you become very hungry while fasting, first drink a large cup of water or tea. You can also nibble on a handful of raw vegetables or satisfy your hunger with a glass of juice or hot vegetable broth.
