How can I edit public foods?

What is the difference between public and private foods?

Private foods are items, whether homemade or store-bought, that you have created and are only visible to you. Please review the information here to know more about where you can find your private foods.

On the other hand, public foods are visible to all users. For example, you can find them anywhere in the search results or when you scan a barcode.

Who can edit public foods?

While any user can edit private foods, public foods can only be edited by PRO users. This restriction is meant to prevent misuse and ensure all information in our database is complete and accurate.

How can I edit or delete public foods?

Please note: Only PRO users can currently edit public foods. Changes made to these foods will be visible to all users. For this reason, please ensure all information you adjust is accurate.

To edit foods that have been made public to all users, proceed as follows:

  1. Under the Diary tab, click on the + button for one of the meal categories.
  2. Search for the food you would like to edit in the search bar or under “Foods.”
  3. Select the food you would like to edit.
  4. iOS: Scroll down and select “Edit product.”
Android: Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select “Edit product.”
  5. You can now edit the following items: barcode (if not already available), name, producer and nutrition facts. Keep in mind that it’s not possible to edit the original serving size. However, you can add a new one.

Since public foods are visible to all users, it is currently not possible to delete them. Private foods, however, can be deleted. You can read how to do so here.

Verified foods (identified with a small checkmark next to their name), which YAZIO has classified as trustworthy, cannot be edited.

When will I see the changes I made to a public food?

All changes made to a food will be visible immediately, except the product name and producer. Changes to these two categories will only take effect after several users have suggested the same product name and producer. This helps us maintain the quality of our database.

Please note: All changes will be applied immediately for private foods not visible to other users.

Why can’t I change the barcode for a public food?

A barcode is unique and cannot be changed once it has been assigned to a food. If you edit a food without a barcode, you will be informed that you can add one. If a food has already been assigned with the barcode you suggest, you will automatically be redirected to that food. If this food contains inaccurate information, you can then adjust it.

When scanning products, you may come across a barcode with multiple results. This is older data that is gradually being cleaned up. In the near future, this barcode will lead to one food.

We hope that you were able to find answers to all your questions and wish you a great journey with YAZIO.
