Should I log the raw or cooked weight of my food?

You may be wondering what the best time is to weigh your food: before or after cooking.

Our goal is for the nutritional values in our app to match those on the manufacturer’s packaging. Generally, these values indicate the raw, uncooked portion of food. On rare occasions, the nutritional values may indicate the cooked portion. However, this is usually indicated on the packaging. We recommend weighing your food before cooking it.

Unless stated otherwise, nutritional values most often refer to the edible part of the food (e.g. with meat, the weight does not include the bones). If it’s not possible to weigh the food in this way, you can always subtract the non-edible part of the food afterwards.
