Any questions about Yazio?

Perfect! You’re in the right place.

Should I log the raw or cooked weight of my food?

If you’re unsure whether to weigh food before or after cooking, you’re not alone 🙂

The good news is that there’s a simple rule of thumb that works in most situations.

In Yazio, the goal is to match the nutritional values shown on food packaging as closely as possible. In most cases, these values refer to the raw, uncooked weight of the food.

That’s why it usually makes sense to weigh and log your food before cooking.

Sometimes, nutrition labels refer to the cooked weight instead. When that’s the case, this is typically stated clearly on the packaging.

What should I keep in mind when weighing food?

  • Log food based on the weight referenced on the packaging
  • In most cases, this means weighing food raw
  • Check the label if you’re unsure whether values refer to raw or cooked food

Unless stated otherwise, nutritional values refer to the edible portion of the food. For example, for meat, the weight excludes bones.

If it’s not possible to weigh only the edible part, you can subtract the non-edible portion afterward. Do what feels reasonable for you, accuracy supports awareness, not perfection 💚
