Do I have to perfectly meet my calorie goal every day?

No! Of course it would be great if you came close to meeting your goal every day. However, small deviances are completely normal and nothing to worry about. Some days you will be hungrier than on other days. Sometimes we eat just to be polite or because it’s a certain time of day. Perhaps you’re also someone who eats when you’re bored or stressed? There are so many factors that have an effect on what and how much we eat because eating is so much more than just an intake of calories. It’s strongly connected to emotions, body sensations, pleasure and social aspects, amongst others. All of these factors have to be taken into account, as well. Every day is different, so it is only normal that your eating behavior varies from day to day, too.

The calorie goal should be a point of reference and a tool to reflect on and control your eating behaviour. Part of that is also learning from your experiences. For example, if you significantly exceed your calorie goal on one day, you will be able to see exactly which foods played a key role here. With time you will learn which foods have a lot of “hidden” calories and which foods are surprisingly low in calories.

What’s most important is that you meet your calorie goal on average over the course of the week. Should you, for example, exceed your calorie goal due to a get-together, you can simply make up for it by reducing your calories on another day accordingly or by burning a few extra calories through activity.

Even if you’re very goal-oriented and ambitious, we recommend not to be too strict regarding your calorie goal. Counting calories should not become the focus of your every-day life!

Since every metabolism is different and every body reacts differently to consumed food, the goals calculated in the YAZIO app should only be seen as a recommendation and not a guaranteed, fixed value.
