Would you like to calculate your ideal weight?
With the help of YAZIO, you can calculate your ideal weight very easily.
An ideal weight means that you’re not too heavy but not too thin and have a healthy body composition. The ideal weight depends on your age, biological gender, and body height and plays an important role in your health.
The key element for calculating the ideal weight is the so-called body mass index (BMI).
To calculate the BMI, your body weight (in kilograms) is divided by your body height (in meters). This value is then squared. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), a normal weight is anything between a BMI of 18.5 and 25. Our calculator defines a BMI of 21 as “ideal” for women and 23 for men.
Is the calculation of the BMI meaningful?
Unfortunately, BMI disregards body composition.
Factors such as muscle mass, water retention, or the weight of the bones are not taken into account by the BMI. Since muscles are heavier than fat, an individual with more muscle mass could mistakenly be categorized as “overweight” according to the BMI alone.
Does a high percentage of muscle mass distort the BMI?
When evaluating the significance of the BMI, it is important to consider whether you have a higher body fat percentage and, thus, actually might be overweight, or if your increased weight is due to other factors such as a high percentage of muscle mass.
Is skinny-fat healthy?
Even with a BMI within the “normal” range, one can be “skinny fat”, which is defined as having a low muscle percentage and a higher body fat percentage at the same time. Even though your weight classifies as “healthy” according to the BMI, this can negatively affect your health.
To better evaluate your specific situation, we recommend that you determine your body composition (for example, with the help of a special scale) and also calculate your BMI.
