What is the difference between Low carb and the Keto diet?
A ketogenic diet is a type of low-carb diet. Usually, low carb is defined as a diet where you consume up to 100g of carbohydrates per day.
In the case of the Keto diet, the aim is to switch the primary source of energy production in the body from carbohydrates to another energy source, called ketones. To achieve this, less than 50 grams of carbohydrates should be eaten daily. The amount of carbohydrates from which this change begins to occur can also vary individually.
What am I allowed to eat?
To stay below 50 g of carbohydrates, your diet should consist primarily of meat, fish, eggs, cream yogurt, cheese, sausage, avocados, nuts, fat, and oil.
Grain or cereal products, (sweet) potatoes, rice, pasta, legumes, fruit, and all sugary foods and drinks are taboo.
Regarding vegetables, you should choose the variety based on their carbohydrate content.
Stay between 20-50 grams of carbohydrates a day. Dietary fibers are not included.
